88432 I just updated the spreadsheet. We are finished! Unfortunately, the cards are randomly selected and this was not our year to get the best points. I do wish there was some credit for completing tasks thoroughly and early on because our team would have earned it. Thanks for playing this year and giving me lots of ideas for new books and authors to read. It was nice getting to know you all!

88432 I thought I had a solution to avoid my reading one more book but that is not the case. But Raquel, if you don't want to finish Beautiful Stranger by tomorrow, I have moves I can make to cover it.
Apr 29, 2024 11:43AM

88432 I have another solution. Raquel- is there a character in Deep Dark Secrets that is cruel or arrogant? I assume so since this is a murder mystery. Can you give me a name?
Apr 29, 2024 08:32AM

88432 Or a fast read Revenge book because I can move the book in Revenge to Anti-hero.
Apr 29, 2024 08:01AM

88432 Hi Team,

We are so close. The only task we have left unaccounted for is the Monsters/Anti-Hero prompt. I could probably read 1 book by tomorrow evening but I do not have any ideas. Any books you would recommend that would fit this category?
Apr 28, 2024 04:18PM

88432 I realized it was Alison who offered to read a dystopian book which she finished. I am going to take my book out and put hers in (I am only about half done.)
Apr 27, 2024 08:59PM

88432 If Raquel is not going to read for the Erotica genre, we have a book that can be moved there and then a romantic suspense or gothic suspense needs to be filled. That should be easy to find.

The only book I see that you committed to read and is unfinished is Beautiful Strangers. Let us know if you are not going to get to it so someone else can look for it. I thought you had offered to read a sci fi/dystopian but I have already started one so that doesn't need done.
Apr 27, 2024 03:45PM

88432 Good job Tiffany! I have a dystopian book I can read for the sci fi/dystopian prompt but don't want to take it if Raquel is also reading a dystopian book. The page length requirement is 100 pages or 25,000 words (checked on ARBooks.)
Apr 27, 2024 10:27AM

88432 We now have just 1 book left to read in the regular UNO prompts. It is for a 5 card. Please take a look for a card with I titles or characters or fifth in a series.

We have a few of the prompts left in the mini challenge. The only ones that no-one has committed to are Hard Science Fiction/Dystopia and Monsters/Anti-Heroes. Take a look and see if you have any that would work for those.

Yes it does. I'll put it in that spot.

88432 Hi all,

I read Horse by Geraldine Brooks recently and slotted it as having something in common with another team's villain. I keep thinking about it because one of my book clubs is discussing it this month and another is discussing it next month. It was a great book and I would recommend it but I really disliked the ending. The dissatisfying ending is also a mini prompt. Let me know if someone has a book they can use for either prompt because I can move them around.
Apr 24, 2024 06:42PM

88432 Yay!
Apr 24, 2024 04:37PM

88432 I appreciate everyone reading and updating the spreadsheet. I have a couple questions:

- Alison- are you still planning to read Only and Forever?

Raquel- I see you have input a few books to the mini planning spreadsheet. For #22- Noir or Hard Boiled, you plan to read The Resting Place. I just started a book that I can finish today that would fit that prompt. Can you use The Resting Place somewhere else? Or if you haven't started it you don't need to.

Everyone, please look for a Green 9.

Thanks,
Felicity

88432 Hi all,

Hope you all had a great weekend. We have 8 days to go on UNO and I thought I would update you all on where we are.

This month, we have read 78 books and still have 27 to go so we should be able to complete this challenge at this pace. For our color cards: we have commitments for the Yellow 1 and the Blue 4 but need someone to commit to reading the 9 Green. Please take a look at your tbrs and see if something fits.

FYI- we have met our Overload requirements so if you were planning on reading something for it, that is not necessary. We also still need 4 number 5s so be looking for those as you read.

For the mini, we still need to fill 24 of the mini prompts. At this point, every book finished should be able to be used for the Mini. Please take some time to look at the prompts and consider them as you are reading. These are pretty flexible prompts but it helps to be looking for things as you read the book. It is harder for Tiffany and me to look for where your books qualify if we haven't read them. If you need some guidance on the prompts, please ask.

Happy Reading!
Felicity

88432 Greetings, team. It is hard to believe this is the third and final month of UNO 2024 and time to start thinking about the Mini Challenge. Here are the details. A spreadsheet for planning is one of the tabs on our Team Spreadsheet. Remember, books can be started anytime after UNO began but cannot be finished until April 15th or later.

Something Wicked This Way Comes - April Mini Challenge

This is an optional (view spoiler) mini challenge for our UNO players. Come on over and explore the dark side of books and reading.

You just could not resist the UNO Mods luring you in to the Hidden Bar and of course you took that one last drink for the road, didn't ya?

After consuming that last drink, you see that another door has appeared on the backwall of the Hidden Bar. And you feel compelled to rise from your table, open it and step through.

You find yourself in a strange, eerie place with dark corners, hidden nooks and crannies, ghostly lights, voices whispering in your ears and, of course, there are all those books on countless and endless shelves calling out to you to read them.

You are in the Hidden LaB(Y)ARinth Library and the only way OUT is IN.

You have to find and read the RIGHT WRONG books in time to get out.

◈ Every book read, i.e. every task completed, is worth 10 points. Each book can be used for one task only.
◈ Books for tasks can be finished in any order. No need to complete blocks to get the 10 points/book.
◈ If your team completes the main tasks (1-45), you get 30 points as bonus.

◈ You get 10 points/book for each of the Evil Extras (tasks 46-55), but they are not part of the completion bonus, just for some more fun if you think you can complete them before the end of the month.

◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the UNO challenge (Feb 1)
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on 15 April, 9am UTC

COUNTDOWN Link:
https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...

and before 1 May at 9am UTC (when UNO 2024 finishes).

◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books from what you are claiming for your UNO hands
◈ The usual book length rules apply
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points

88432 Raquel wrote: "Also, how do the overload cards work? I hadn't seen these before."
They said they had done this before but I don't remember it. (Maybe before my time.) We have to read 5 Overload Cards and we can choose among any of the colors and there is no letter requirement. They have to be one of the colors:

purple
- pink
- orange
- brown
- grey
- white
- black

Each color can only be used once. Hope that makes sense. A lot easier than the Draw 4s, which they are replacing.

88432 Congratulations Team! With Juhi's book finished we have completed the main challenge and the mini challenge. Now we can move on to our last month of UNO. Any books you have started in February or March can be used as long as they are finished in April. Lots of color card requirements so look for those. The tracking spreadsheet is available if anyone would like to start planning.

88432 Good to know Tif. I read and enjoyed Reckless Girls by her for Uno 2 years ago because it is a nice yellow color. I just borrowed The Villa from the library to read for a reverse for next month.
Mar 24, 2024 08:37PM

88432 Sorry, I didn't see the gown on the cover. Yes, items appearing on the cover can be used just not items mentioned in the book that are not in one of the ingredient category.
